Why Every City Needs a #TechCrush

On Saturday Fame Events and Made Magazine threw an awesome event, #TechCrush. The event, sponsored by Black Tech Mecca and 1871, showcased emerging tech startups as well as introduced up and coming minority and women entrepreneurs.

The 5 startups highlighted at the event were:

Konveau (pronounced convo): an app that makes meeting others simpler and more enjoyable. Konveaus are different from regular networking events and Meetups because they are powered by the Konveau mobile web app.

Oja Express (who is officially launching their app tonight!): bridges the gap between food, culture, and tech. The service allows you to order ethnic food, which would probably take a long drive or time to get yourself, and then receive same day grocery delivery to your home or office. *And also took home the title of #TechCrush champion*

Elu: an online apparel brand for plus size women who want to look and feel beautiful in the company’s made-to-measure collection.

Black Box Creative: a small business and Internet strategy consultant company. They provide customers with solutions that include key aspects of business development.

WeSolv (which hosted the pitch competition): creates an ecosystem of diverse students from across the nation and top companies to create more access and opportunities for collaboration aimed at solving real business challenges.

Chicago is becoming a major tech hub and it’s crucial that people support  minority tech companies and entrepreneurs with their endeavors whenever we have the chance. Thus, I’m very excited to see more events like #TechCrush taking over the scene! Congrats to everyone involved and I can’t wait to see some new products from the teams that pitched.
